  • Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

    Science On Tap is a free monthly informal science café series in partnership with the American Philosophical Society, Chemical Heritage Foundation, Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and the Wagner Free Institute of Science. Science on Tap takes place at National Mechanics Bar & Restaurant, 22 South 3rd Street in Old City.

    Tapping Our Watershed is a free science cafe that brings devotees of water science together for conversations with top experts in the field.  Third Monday of each month at National Mechanics. 

    Workshops, Classes, Field Studies:  Each month offers a different opportunity for adults to learn more about nature and science through hands-on workshops, classes and field studies with Academy scientists. Collect insects in the Pine Barrens of N.J.; learn how to draw dinosaurs, examine birds-of-prey up close. Check often for the on-line schedule.

  • Association for Public Art

    Membership: Members of the Association for Public Art help support a tradition of public art excellence. They receive invitations to the aPA's Annual Meetings, which feature distinguished guest speakers such as Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen (2001), Bonnie Burnham, Director of the World Monuments Fund (2005), and Christo and Jeanne Claude (1996); notices of symposia, special events, and publications of interest; and invitations to special receptions and dedications. Membership dues and contributions are tax-deductible.  

    Publications: As part of its mission to commission, interpret, promote and preserve public art in Philadelphia, the Association for Public Art publishes books, maps, and brochures; maintains an inventory of public art in Philadelphia; and provides selected resources for researching public art.

    Public events: The Franklin Institute’s popular Night Skies in the Observatory is hosted by Chief Astronomer at The Franklin Institute, Derrick Pitts.  On the second Thursday of each month, the rooftop Joel N. Bloom Observatory remains open late and offers 5 different telescopes for you to view celestial objects in the sky, including stars, planets, nebulae, and if conditions are right, a galaxy or two.
